I am starting to run out of places to take a nice walk with my three (I know crazy lady) dogs. I prefer trails not streets. Does anyone have any favorites that I can check out?? Also when is Sonoma County going to have more access to open space for hikes???
I love taking my dog to the Windsor Foothills. There are trails of varying difficulty and duration....and it's beautiful. Several ponds that dogs can swim in there too...
I also love Foothill Park in Windsor. Watch out for the poison oak, though! At this time of the year, it is often growing right against the edges of trails where our dogs love to investigate. I carry pet wipes and wipe my dogs down before loading them back into the car in the hopes of getting any residual oil off of their coats. We actually have many nice county parks with great hiking trails here in Sonoma County, including Crane Creek in Rohnert Park and Helen Putnam in Petaluma. I just wish we had areas for off-leash hiking like they do in Marin County. Of course, last time I drove down to Indian Valley in Novato I was appalled by the amount of dog waste that had been left behind on the trails, even around the complimentary waste disposal dispensers! If people continue to be so thoughtless, restrictions on dogs are sure to increase! Sorry to introduce a touch of glum into the topic, but I do worry about losing the few priviledges we Sonoma County dog owners currently have!
Wow...went to Foothill Park today. The poison oak is getting big. It's not quite over the trail yet but do not let your dog wander off trail. I have gotten poison oak from the oil left on my dogs' coats.
