Thank you for such a loving story, with so many life lessons to ponder.

Wow, that is touching, but I think the real story is in that kitchen and the design. I know few articles can match the literary precedence of Levi's new kitchen, but the Press Democrat has set high standards. I'm anticipating Guy Fieri's bathroom remodel article. A toilet shaped as Nascar racing seat. Hopefully a jewelry holder.

cwatto1 - lol, funny!!

But, personally, I enjoyed reading about our famous Sonoma County chef. I wonder if his fiance is related to Marion Cunningham who redid the Fannie Farmer cookbook which taught me how to be a pretty great cook!

So many people speak about Keller in hushed tones so it's good to see him humanized.

Now speaking of KITCHENS, intersting that he has one of those "seamless" type of refrigerators that match the cabinets that I'm not really into. And his kitchen did not look that big. I'm surprised. I thoght his kitchen was pretty nice outside of that fridge.

yeah that is a pretty modest kitchen. I guess chefs don't make that much money, especially these days.

I see what you mean about the fridge. I like that seamless look when its a real big kitchen but it looks awkward in a small kitchen like that.

I wonder if those cabinets have lights inside. That would be nice. The glass fronts are nice. Looks like a shaker style cabinetry throughout with a modern element with the glass front and the pulls. Shaker style doesn't usually use pulls. You know how I feel about black countertops but I'm not one to go against a chef so I ain't gonna talk crap about it. I would like to see some more architectual lighting to compensate for the black floors and counters. You should never match colors with floors and counters. Also never use brown or yellow in the bathrooms. Use blue, for water.

That stool he's sitting on is, of course, too oversized for that area. I presume he's looking out a slider, in which case those stools will have to be place elsewhere altogether. It causes aggravation. That chef dude needs a woman around.

Hi Res! Glad you made it to the thread! He is engaged to Laura Cunningham.

I was shocked that he had a rather small kitchen!!

I do kind of like those old Shaker cabinets in there, it's definitely an older home - hence the small kitchen. Interesting that he does not live in a huge home!

Oh & I definitely want to get that new cookbook he put out Ad Hoc. I'm willing to bet it's already at Costco for about $20.

Dr. Savage says it sucks.

I haven't because those Michelin starred restaurants tend to be great on presentation and service but not great in taste.

I used to love The Farmhouse Inn, but they have changed chefs since we were there.

And we both cook amazing meals, sub to Cook's Illus & La Cucina Italiana.

I am fascinated by the "Ad Hoc" cookbook and I def want to get it next time I go out shopping. We bought the Julia Child French Cooking books (there were 2 in a set) at least a year ago at Costco for about $20! Good buy! And since then the movie about Julia came out (we haven't seen it yet but it's on our long Netflix queue) they changed the book to just one and I think they left off the 2nd book in the new version.

The Laundry is a true culinary experience. First went back in early 90's when my folks lived in Yountville. Recently returned, Spring of '09 and it was still as impressive as ever.

BTW B33, the Farmhouse is still good but not what it used to be. Last time we were there I had a "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit" trio that was forgettable. Just makes Mosaic that much more appealing.

We sure are blessed out here in West County with a number of top notch restaurants.

My husband had the Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit, I couldn't......bear to try it. Last time we were there I was just barely out of being a veggie.

Interesting that TFL is still great in Spring 09 since Keller hasn't been cooking there for eons. Did you read the article about Keller? I thought it was wonderful.

Did you see Ratatouille the cartoon from Pixar? Fab and the restaurant was somewhat based on TFL. After we saw it I looked up several youtube vids on Keller that I loved.

If you own or see Ratatouille make sure you see the "extras" as they talk about TFL and Keller in it.

And I agree we are blessed with these restaurants and we are blessed with so much beauty and wonderful weather here as well. I love looking at the vines (don't tell MM3), it is absolutely breathtaking for one's eyes living here.

Believe me, if you had tried it you would still be a veggie. It was the most flavorless thing I have ever eaten at a place where I expected so much more. We haven't returned since and used to frequent them.

No, we don't do movies. Can't tell you the last one I paid to watch.

In MM3's defense his and my neighborhoods were all apples until about 17 years ago. That's when a major reformation took hold in west county and the apples trees gave way to grape vines. I was just as adamant about them being eyesores when they first went in. After a while the improved views started to grow on me. I kept apples on my property though they are old and decrepit nowadays, but I must say that the vines are growing on me. This is a gorgeous time of year for them.

If you're growing apples, why not try Cox's Orange Pippin, and other amazing English varieties that they have at Philo Apple Farm in Philo. I believe he sells them too.

I know you like Gravenstein's, but the English Bramley is probably much better in pies.

And the English apples are amazing tasting. The Philo Farm is the only place to get them near this county or just about anywhere in the USA.

In fact, so many varieties that Luther Burbank did (the Red Declicious, Golden Delicious, etc) are just not as good or tasty as the British apple varieties.

Here's a direct link to the list of apple varieties they have.

Ok, just stop while you're ahead and nobody will get hurt. Blasphemy!

IDK, I think you should TRY these other varieties. Just try them. You'll see. And yes I know it's blasphemous in this county to say that but remember I went to the "Graventein" Apple Fair and there wasn't any Apple juice from locally grown apples there? Although there were SOME food items made of Gravensteins at that fair, most of the "apple" stuff was not necessarily Gravensteins.

I do know that the Slow-Food Movement is trying to save the Gravenstein.

You have to put it into perspective. It's kind of like going to a food and wine fair and expecting them to serve only the best food and wine. You get what you get from whomever rents a booth. The Grav Fair is more fluff than substance these day.
