RE: http://www.pressdemocrat.com/article/20080726/NEWS/807260327

Do any American Citizens go to this fair anymore? Or is it just another Walmart parking lot carnival for eel eagles? It's been eight years since I had the displeasure of going. That day there were gang bangers all over the place. What's the point? Instead of beefed up SRPD presence, I want to see a platoon of ICE agents and a row of buses fueled up and ready to roll to San Isidro. Then I might go back to the fair.

Yes, a lot of American citizens go to the fair. The Poyntlyss Sistars, a white jazz/rock group were great fun listening to. Families, couples and even seniors danced and clapped to their three sets Friday evening. The shows, vendors and exhibits are always great. Everyday there is something new. Those of us who go to the fair for the fun aren't going to let some punks and negative posters spoil it. Those of you reading this and wondering whether to go or not, take it from somebody who actually goes to the fair--it's great--the carnival is not what the fair is about--go to all the other stuff. The man with the toothpick sculpture is a must see! And Splashdogs was great as well. After Tuesday, it's probably the safest place in Santa Rosa.

Okay njlowrey, you sound like a very nice person, but your head is buried in the sand. I sincerely hope you don't become a victim of those thugs that roam the grounds like packs of wolves. And to everyone else: I hope you own Kevlar vests.

I just spent the day at the fair, and anyone who says they "Rarely" feel safe are taking it over the top. You'd think there were rows of hoodlums taunting people as they came in the gates like "fresh fish" to a prison!

You pretty much have to be looking for trouble to find it...

I haven't gone in years... I can't stand the way all the perverted Hispanics undress me with their eyes and talk about me in Spanish. And I'll take a pass on any event that is touted as "family fun" that requires a cop holding your hand the whole time.

I can think of so many better things to do with my time and money.

Zen2600 said it best:

"You pretty much have to be looking for trouble to find it..."

That is absolutely correct.

Gang bangers hurt and kill each other, or each others loved ones for the most part. It's true that innocent people get hurt by gang activity, but odds are that they aren't going to shoot you if you are dressed in normal clothes, looking at the flower exhibits or the moo cows.

On the other hand, if you have a really good tan, a red or blue bandana covering half of your eyes and a really long flanel shirt....Well, maybe the fair isn't for you.

The cops are there for the easy over time. They don't care if the gang bangers shoot each other and you shouldn't either.

Just stay out of their way and enjoy your life. If that doesn't work, cary a big gun, learn how to shoot it (which they rarely do...reference the recent Petaluma shooting in which the house with six occupants was filled with bullets but nobody got hit) and go enjoy yourself.

Don't live in fear. Your odds of being run over by a bus are better than getting shot by a gang banger....Unless you are looking for trouble.

You're kidding me right? Your logon is 3056? So you're a parolee? That right there says it all. And no they don't just prey on each other. They wouldn't hesitate to roll some poor lady with a baby stroller. You all can have your mexican rodeo fair. You're all safer playing frogger on the freeway than going to the tijuana carnival.

We should be supporting this event in our community instead of letting the negative elements prevail. I, for one was impressed by the magnificent Race Track, the variety of food available, the birth of a calf and the impact of the Sustainable Sonoma exhibit. This is where our attention should be focused. Those of you with an agenda are perpetuating the negative. Stay home, in your own negative world. Let the rest of us enjoy life, the good with the bad.

bb84: It is very difficult to support this community when this community touts itself as a "sanctuary city". Time to move.....

Rodeo? What kind of Barbarians go to rodeos anyway? This is passed off as good family fun? Rodeos are cruel. They should be outlawed.

The mexis are selfish arrogant cowards.
They beat their wives.
They rape their daughters.
At a MUCH higher percentage than "whitey".
