"...cast ballots on an initiative concerning gay marriage." What was the issue about? Explain. Was in pro or con Gay marriage? What group representing what position was intimidating? Is there anybody at the Press Democrat who can write an informed editorial that contains at least a minimum of facts to support a premise or point of view? This is very bad writing---bad, lazy or deliberately misleading.
Your editorial does not make any sense. You support having names being publically disclosed but you don't say why other than people shouldn't expect privacy when they sign a ballot. Ref 71 was a very hot issue in WA and names of supporters were being asked to be released so that people opposed to the initative could openly harrass supporters. Reguardless of the position someone takes, this is not okay. If making ballet signing public enables this and there is no valid reason to make them public, then they should be held private.
California law provides for privacy of those who sign petitions. After gay marriage was banned last November, the supporters of gay marriage published the names and addresses of the contributors to the other side on the internet. Now we know who the Mormons are.
there was also a time when the media worked the issues with ethical investigative work resulting in the presentation of actual news. just another media attempt to ideologically manipulate the minds of the people.
"because of government fewer Americans today know their neighbors last name let alone their first" - a young lad was overheard to have said on Bohemian Hwy. not far from the quonset hut in Monte Rio.
Personally the only petition I would sign is a petition to forbid any new laws forever. I would not read a lot into information about who signed any petition. Many times people sign it just to get the panhandling addicts that are paid to get signatures from in front of the grocery stores off their asses.
I would love to see an end to all propositions in California and I would also like to see a one term limit for state elected officials for any position. If they get a term in the senate then they are done for life. That would eliminate special interest politics as we know it.
We need change and we need it now. We have been treading water for far too long and are on the verge of drowning.
