As having first hand knowledge of these jerks tagging several of my fences, I can assure you that they would tons of volunteer civilians ready to solve the problem.....All you need is to spray paint the face and eyes of the taggers when they are caught. A half dozen green faces artists walking around with spray paint on their faces would solve the problem pretty quick.
Or the other alternative, a 22 long rifle in the buttocks should also work.

Seems that maybe this is evidence left behind that just might have fingerprints that just might be used to prosecute...?

So when the graffiti is in places not normally accessed or seen by the public, why waste city resources removing it with caustic chemicals? It's unfortunate, but you're never going to win a battle unless you have guards posted at every bridge 24/7. Removal of the cans is a different matter, but not nearly as time consuming as graffiti removal.

The city should also stop punishing business because of graffiti. If someone tags a businesses property, giving a fine if it isn't removed at their expense within 72 hours I believe isn't the solution.

I can say outside of some gang graffiti, most taggers aren't "illegals" or even Hispanic. They come from all ethnic backgrounds, including many American born and raised Caucasian kids, and they do it as a form of self expression, not to claim territory. The examples in the photos, by the way, aren't gang related at all.

Taggers come in all stripes. Unfortunately there are some in the community that think it is art. As for reducing the tagging; #1 in Santa Rosa, property owners have 3 days to clean it up and any tagging on public property can be reported to the 24hr graffiti hot line.
(I've had a fireplug and lamp post tagged and the city crew was out pronto!) YOU HAVE GOT TO CALL! Don't assume someone else will! As for the scoundrels, once their caught, make them clean it up until someone else is caught and so on. Charge the parents and don't let them get out of paying. NON ENFORCEMENT BREEDS NONCONFORMITY!!!

I posted this suggestion once before and the PD deleted it. Let me try this again. For the first offense, the tagger should be forced to wipe off the mess with a Mexican flag. For the second offense, when a tagger is caught he needs to be executed, his body cut into pieces and his blood used to paint over the ugliness he created.

Last Summer my family build a Fence through our property in Bennet Valley, off the Golf Course, Not even 24 hours after being build my dogs were barking, My brother and I went around the Block and found 4 teen, Not all Latino doing a Job on our Fence. After detaining the teens we called both the Police as well as their parents.
The parents accused us of touching their kids, the police said there was a double Decision because of their Parents claims and our so we dropped the Charges.
After $1,200.00 in repairs the same teens returned, unfortunately a neighbors Dobermans did serious injury to 3 of the kids and causing facial scaring to a 4th.
We're not sure if the public cares but it's not just a Latino Gang thing

I don't consider that unfortunate. In fact if I were the owner of the Dobermans I'd damn well take the suing parents to THIS Supreme Court if they tried to sue me for that. I'd spend the money to do it. Take it all the way!

Wow! Your naivete amazes me!! The PCness (and utter absurdity) of your post is amazing! Expressing themselves, not hispanic, caustic chemicals...you should run for Berkeley city council!!! btw you should ask the SRPD for the stats on the ethnic make up of the VAST majority of taggers...

As one of the volunteer people who, through the City's Graffiti Abatement Program, paint over graffiti, I am thinking, is it such a good idea to give front page coverage to this vandalism? I mean, isn't this what their intent is, to thrust their tagging symbols on the rest of us? Couldn't a picture have been taken of the paint cans & trash minus the tagging on the wall? Also, the perpetrators are from all backgrounds -- not all are gang related. Anyway, I don't think we should be helping them to glorify their felonious behavior with a front page photo.

Since Sonoma County is an Illegal Immigrant sanctuary county, then so it is a Gang Sanctuary County as well, because no effort has been put out by authorities to stop this!!!!

I think cities with the "Tagger" problem should add extra fees to the Hispanic communities requests for parades, marches (where they whine about how bad they have it here in our country as illegals), etc. so the cities can recoup the money used in Graffiti removal. Also, the court system should have the "wanna be" gang bangers sentences be Graffiti removal. Let them go back to where they live and let these punks clean up their own mess. Of course, Santa Rosa doesn't have a gang problem here and...

trolltor I agree!

Jeremy Hay and The Press Democrat,

Each week I anonymously volunteer 5 to 10 hours to remove tags, graffitti vandalism in my small town, alone.
We do not have a police/city support or interest to form an abatement group as Santa Rosa does. My town feels if it's not “gang related” they are not interested.Try having a conversation with city police, council explaining till you are blue in the face it is all the same, VANDALISM.

IMHO this article accomplished giving the vandals what they want so badly FAME.
Fame is the goal wanted so desperately that they steal, vandalise, use drugs to keep them awake, put their lives at risk to receive that accolade.
Crews of taggers are made up of every race, gender age and status in the real world and their own.
