Another example of mismanagement by our city leaders.

Can't even keep basic services for the CITIZENS, but they can sponsor Rights Marches and Cinco de Mayo celebrations for the ILLEGALS.

Oh, and we may have seen the last of the Luther Burbank Rose Festival Parade, too.

This is totally insane!

We could cut costs by not buying books in spanish and not having services duplicated by translating into spanish.

The illegals do not want to learn English, so the library wastes our tax money catering to them. Then, blames the problem on lower property values and declining property taxes.

It seems like every time there is a problem, the scale gets tipped by the illegal and the cost of supporting THEM. Most pay no taxes yet use more gubmint services than taxpayers/citizens/legal residents.

Let's be honest. Who really goes the library any more? Besides the homeless and preschool fieldtrips...the internet has taken over. We could condense branches and save a lot of money that most people don't even use. Sorry Charlie, it's just a sign of the times. How will this hurt students? Most schools have libraries and most information is available online. We'll adapt.

The library is run by the county, not by the city. They're completely different.

My thoughts exactly. Don't close the libraries, stop buying materials in foreign languages. That would save alot more money.

Eventually, maybe. But I do use the library sometimes, and I am not a preschool fieldtripper and I'm not homeless. The library's actually pretty cool. You can borrow books, tapes, DVDs, and CDs, and it's paid for by taxes.

Two years ago, when I was doing quite a bit of driving for a couple months, I listened to some audiobooks from the library.
Right now, I have a bunch of things checked out from the library. I won't necessarily get around to using all of them, but the service is pretty cool. You can't get everything on the Internet. And you really can't get all the things you can get at the library on the Internet for free.

why can't the libraries be closed on a rotating basis, rather than all at once? Very poor planning!

What do they mean low property tax revenues? For the last 10 years tons of homes have been built, bought and sold and bought again for more and more money. Where did all that money go? Aside from the existing homes, all those houses in Fountaingrove were built and sold and they were sold for some hefty sacks of cash. Show me the money!

It sound like Sandra Cooper, is only thinking of giving her employees, an extended vacation. This should have been done on a rotating basis. Keeping some branches open while others are closed the same day. She only thinking of herself. Many people use the Library, and students need to study and do research during the winter break. The internet, can not replace the library, and Sandra should do what she can to teach people, all the assets these libraries provide. Perhaps it is time, for her to go. And I think you could let the security guards, go also. Policing is for criminals, and that is the job of the police. Libraries are about reading, studying and research

Most school libraries have already laid off their librarians and even UC and State College Libraries are hurting.
We take this Free Library for granted.
