Permanent out-haul is ok. Competitively bid it. Might even end up being cheaper than divestiture.
"That threatened order comes as some community leaders are calling for the county to reopen the landfill with institution of guidelines that increase trash diversion into recycling."
That bit about "community leaders" should be changed to community nut-cases. They are the cost-is-no-object zero-waste Sierra Club greenhouse gas croud that will bankrupt you if you let them.
Zane and Carillo are the newbies and they are the problem. They don't know the drill but insist on being the shot callers. Zane looks like Geriatric Wannabe Barbie. She's scary sitting up there on her throne like she does.
Trash generated by Sonoma County residents will continue being trucked out of county for another three years under plans approved Tuesday by county supervisors.
Sounds like they put it out to the next term of supervisors.
If the supervisors were smart, they would start looking at some of the cutting-edge technologies available that will convert the trash into homegrown energy (e.g., electricity, ethanol, butanol) and actually generate revenue for the county. With this new contract to ship the waste out of the county, they now have 3 years to go through the vetting process for these technologies so that we don't get stuck in the same desperate situation 3 years from now. But, then again, these aren't business people, they're politicians, so what do we expect?
