After all that our military has done for us and all of the sacrifices they have made Sonoma County is rewarding them by shutting down the Veterans Service Office on 8/14.
When our soldiers come home and need help now they must go to the VA in Oakland to file their claims. There is no one locally to help them find jobs, get health care, apply for their GI Bill or get any of the other services they deserve. I think this is wrong and I encourage everyone that cares to contact the Board of Supervisors and let them know how you feel. This is a 4 person office and it's not like it's breaking the bank. |

This is a tragedy. They need to STOP all funds for illegals. Every single DIME and put it into our vets and other American things. |

Totally agree! Our vets should have the best and our government treats illegals better. Our government makes me sick! |

I have not read the story, only the posts.
How can it be that veterans service office is closing when there are local government officials making $200,000.00 or more in salary plus full benifits. We need to hear more about this. Those who sacrifice to protect our freedom need the best we can give. |

There is no story. The Press has been silent about this so far. No one has said anything anywhere. I found out from a friend that was useing their services and was told yesterday that all of the paid staff would be laid off on 14 Aug. They will try and have volunteers available. I don't believe that the job they do can be done by volunteers. they are advocates. They have community contacts for jobs and they have an integral understanding about services available to veterans from the VA and the state of California and they know how to apply and get results. This isin't something volunteers can just step into off the street. We need these people back now. San Francisco County not only has an office but also a satalite branch at the VA in Ft. Miley. SC should have their office near the VA off of chanate Rd. They are currently in a shared office near the SC Airport and don't even have a name on the door to let vets know they are there. The SC Supes are letting our Vets down and it is a travesty. Fire some interpreters at the welfare office and hire these people back. If something isin't done quickly I will personally carry out a vendetta against all the Supes and let everyone know how they treat vets next time they run for office. |
