The SC Supes have laid off the four Veterans Service Officers that have helped veterans in this county for decades.
This office helps vets and returning vets get VA benifits including health care, GI Bill education and housing, State of california housing plus jobs. They are an invaluable resource for veterans and they are irreplacible. Now if veterans want to get help they need to go to the VA Reginal office in Oakland and deal with the Federal rat race and they have to do it with no advocate. That is a nightmare. This four person office requires very little. It's less than the consulting fee used by management to give all the County Employees everything they wanted. To cut this service in a time of war is a travesty. I am a Viet Nam vet and put up with this same attitude when I got home. I had hoped it would change though. What this shows me is that the Liberals in the BOS still control things and that they hate the warriors today as much as they did in the 60's. They don't say it in in words but actions speak louder than words. |
