Several months ago, my computer developed so many problems, including trojan viruses that I had to call Microsoft tech support to eradicate them. One of the tools they used, which seems to work quite well for me is the free version of superantispyware, found at this site.. Time will tell whether I start getting more spyware threats as I frequent these forums.

I'm placing odds that Bolverk (or whatever name he wants to use) will be posting again without the malware being removed.

He now has 2 posts.

Any takers?

Just how many times has this guy threatened to stop posting.

This reply is directly to Heather Irwin.

First, I have verified that the Press Democrat uses some of the most malicous web tracking software available today. Zedo.com, 2o7.net and ad.yieldmanager.com are three I have personally verified and found being used on their site. Why do the presume to be able to use someone elses system resources without paying for it, and causing systems to slow down tremendously. Even when blocked, this software still attempts to reload. Do you consider this ethical?

Second, in this day and age, why are you unable to preform the rather simple and mundane task of migrating data from one data base to the next? There are zero reasons for you to be able to do this.

Third, though this new forum looks pretty good, what is the real purpose of removing an active forum, rather then advertising it and bringing it in line with your service? Don't give me any non-sense about compatibility either. After seeing some of the actions of this online paper, with regards to comments that are not being posted in the comment section because they were not politcally correct, yet fell with in the guidelines of the rules, I am thinking you folks will be rather heavy handed here as well. Personally, I think New York is imposing their political beliefs on this site, which is why certain words are filtered, like 'liberal', 'progressive', and a few other terms.

I think Thomas Paine said it best, "He who dares not offend can not be honest." So, what does that say about your paper? It seems the only people your paper are willing to offend are the one on the other side of the political isle from your stance. Is it not the duty of the Press to report the News and not just the Politically Correct point of view?

Sincerely,
Capttan Kona aka Bolverk, never to post here again, until the Press Democrat denounces and removes all tracking software.

I'll hunt around for the spell check feature. I'm surprised not to see one on the little toolbar.

As for the Pets--we are using a single system for the boards--which link out to other sites (including SonomaPets.com). I've separated out the "Town Hall" news from the other sections--so you have a separate area now.

But don't be shy to come visit us over in some of the other forums. Say, the Restaurant Buzz?

One of your own, Joe, has kept me apprised of some of the needs of the board, but don't hesitate to drop me a line if there's something i can help you with.

Laters,
h

Nice to see most everyone making it into the new site.

So we have chosen Door #2.

Now lets see if I can do something about my old baghead.

It also seems like your handle is governed entirely by your e-mail address, with no way to change it. EDIT: I think I figured it out, but it might take a little while to take hold. You need to log out, then back in again, or stick around the forums for 30 minutes.

Go in to edit your profile and hunt around a bit. The tool will be in there.

PDONLINE, it isn't enthusiasim for the new forum as lack of anywhere else to go. You must have missed the suggestions to just plain hijack a thread or two to make them catch alls so we have a place to whine and moan about this and that.

Thanks for (finally) telling us what is going on. We can all understand that things need to be changed and/or updated from time to time (although some wise person commented "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"). It seemed to some of us that the PD couldn't stomach honest opinions that differed so much from the editorial positions.

Heather, as Gaff said, start the subjects from the old forum up here. And maybe get rid of the Pets/prom/games pablum.

The forum threads are in a database. It would be some work by a developer / engineer, but I can name several forums I haunt that have had their databases migrated successfully to an Eve powered front end from something else.

I can understand that you don't want to support both from the cost perspective. But aside from cost, what is it, really, that is keeping you all from porting the information from the old database into the new one? We, the posters, stand to lose a significant number of on going discussions with a simple "plug pull".

Tomas, I got your email reply. Thank you for the prompt response.

Heather, Tomas: what we'd really like to see are the same topics we had in the old forums. Please add topics for The War in Iraq, The War on Terrorism, Sonoma County Politics, California Politics, etc.

I understand that you can't copy the threads over from the old software. But, if you start the topics that you used to have, we'll take it from there.

The point to remember is that what the government gives it must first take away.
