What do you do when the Internet is down? Comcast or DSL, dial-up or satellite, we're all dependent on world wide connectivity these days. How do you cope? Let us know!

Lord, can't you come up with better questions?
The internet is nice, wonderful in fact, but it isn't a necessity for the average person. We did quite well without it for a few millenia. Yeah, it is nice to get up to the minute news and be able to experess opinions with a wider variety of people from more places, but it isn't a life or death matter. For entertainment there are always books. subjoe Justice Robert H. Books?
I thought we were suppose to burn them to keep warm while we huddled close to our glowing monitor, our fingers cramped around the mouse and our eyes straining to catch all of the wonderment and joy that the internet has brought to us. When the internet goes down, I usually stare at the “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” error page and in a panic trying unsuccessfully, over and over to reconnect my connection. When all else fails, I will usually just sit and watch my toenails grow. |

Cope? The internet goes down?
Dude, get a fancy name. I wouldn't know you are with PD except for the stupid question. Can't you make yourself stand out more? Hmmmm, maybe not. Put the mouse down, back away from the keyboard. Anyone who is "so dependent" on world wide connectivity that they don't know what to do with themselves if the Internet isn't working will not survive long when (not if) cyber warfare begins in earnest. If you can't think of anything else (taking a walk, reading a book, spending some quality time with your significant other, gardening, housework, hitting golf balls, going to the firing range... need I go on), then perhaps all that is left to you is what is between your own two legs. Or do you not know what to do with that? |

EEEWWWW, that was a nasty shot, Big Dog!
<g> I like it! Good to see you here. subjoe Justice Robert H. Jackson - It is not the function of the government to keep the citizen from falling into error; it is the function of the citizen to keep the government from falling into error. |

I'm a little cranky these days, and silly questions like the OP above just don't wear well on me lately.
There is some very scary, and very informative, material out there already on the coming cyberwars. The next mainline war that the United States has to fight will, doubtlessly, begin in cyberspace. That is where an enemy of even modest means can attack and shake the foundations of the nation. After all, when Crackberry's servers hiccuped one day last year and caused a worldwide disruption, there were otherwise intelligent people walking around that had no clue of what to do with themselves. Those will be the first victims. |
